We are learning about the damage that the rain has done
over the past few days in Canterbury
We have had big puddles and a lot of blocked gutters and drains in Christchurch over the last couple of days.
We have had to try and stay away from the surface flooding.
This has been caused by some of the drains being blocked with leaves and the
water can’t drain away.
The flood has caused sewage and other pollution to overflow and now a lot of the
water is contaminated. If you come in contact with this polluted water you must
shower and wash your clothes.
Some schools have been damaged and have had to work in the hall.
Some of the power cells have been flooded and damaged.
There have been evacuations from some houses.
The rivers have broken their banks and there has also been
strong gusts of wind.
